Early Life
Born in the year 1999, Gaulden had a tough childhood. He broke his neck when he was a toddler for which he had to wear a head brace for a long time till his spine healed. This left a permanent scar on his forehead, something that he was conscious about in his childhood.
Apart from his injury, he has had a tumultuous family life as a child too. He was primarily raised by his maternal grandmother as his father was in prison. When Gaulden was a child, his father was sentenced to fifty-five (55) years in prison.
He dropped out of school when he was in ninth grade. He was then sent to juvenile detention after being accused of robbery. It was then that he started to write music.
Soon after his release in the year 2010, his beloved grandmother passed away after having a heart attack. He had to move to an organization or group home where he used to get beaten up by his fellow residents.
In an article titled “The Secret Life, House Arrest And Rebirth Of Youngboy Never Broke Again” published by the Billboard, YoungBoy mentions the abuse that he faced at the group home:
“I used to get beat up inside the group home for no reason. The other boys would put their hands on me, and I would look up like, ‘Why are you hitting me, bro? What’d I do?’ It made me discover another side of me that I never glorified or liked. I found out how to be the person that you don’t want to do that with. [Before then], I never understood all the evilness or wrong because I was showered by so much love from this one person.”

Career
As I have already mentioned before, Gaulden started his career in the year 2015. With the microphone that he had bought from a store at the age of 14, he started his career and produced music. This is when he released his first mixtape titled Life Before Fame.
This was only the beginning of something great!
After 2015’s release, there was a string of mixtapes that were released in his YouTube channel. Some of these included Mind of a Menace, Mind of a Menace 2, and the popular Before I Go. However, it was 38 Baby that attracted a lot of attention in 2016.
Even though he released several other mixtapes in the year 2016, fate had other plans for him.
In November 2016, the then 17 year old YoungBoy was taken into custody after being charged with “two counts of attempted murder.” While in jail, he released two other mixtapes. Just a week after his release from prison, his single “Untouchable” was released. His mixtape AI YoungBoy charted at number 24 on Billboard 200 list.
