Will Smith has confirmed sequel for I Am Legend 2 based on the alternate ending from DVD release. The film is in the final stages of scripting. He revealed this info at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah on December 2 night. Smith has told that his character dies in the theatrical version of I Am Legend. However, the sequel is will be based on the alternate ending featured in the 2007 post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie’s DVD release. This is as per the report from The Variety.

In 1994 the project was an offering from Warner Bros but it got delayed due to budget concerns. The project resumed in 2006 in New York City that included a $5 million Brooklyn Bridge scene.

The movie was released in the year 2007 on December 14, both in the United States and Canada. It went on to become the 7th highest grossing film of 2007 earning $256 million domestically, $329 million overseas At the global level it raked a total of $585 million.

Smith one of the Hollywood A-list guests at the third edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival. Here he revealed, “I have a call with Michael B. Jordan tomorrow. We’re really close, the script just came in.”

In the sequel Smith will be reprising his role as Neville and is co-produced with Michael B. Jordan. Smith has also revealed that in the ‘Bad Boys 4’ installment he will repeat his role alongside Martin Lawrence as in the earlier sequels of the original 1995 hit detective movie. He added further saying, “You have to be a real ‘I Am Legend’ buff to know this, but in the first, theatrical version, my character dies, but on the DVD there was an alternate version of the ending where my character lived. We are going with the mythology of the DVD version. I can’t tell you anything more, but Michael B. Jordan is in,” Variety reported.
