Add Comfort to a Deck

In the warm months, the deck usually becomes one of the most popular living spaces in the house. However, if you don’t use yours that much, there might be some things you need to change and update to make it more comfortable.

Your deck can be one the best places to relax, entertain and even cook if set upright. A few improvements in the lighting and furniture department could make all the difference.

Here are some ways you can make a deck better.

1. Install a Gazebo (Pergola)

Installing a gazebo to your deck can give the space partial cover that’s both decorative and practical. Open-roof gazebos can be made better with ivy and other similar plants that can provide shade and still allow for light breezes to pass through. Gazebos are a great way to shade some part of the deck so you can still use it even when the weather isn’t that good.

2. Outdoor Furniture

Outdoor Furniture

Most living spaces that are considered comfortable typically have comfortable seating. Whether it’s some hammock chairs, a dining area, or an outdoor sectional, having somewhere cozy you can sit and chill can help make all the difference. It’s also a great way to ensure the space has touched on your personal style.

Outdoor furniture products come in many different styles and colors that fit nearly any budget. You can also just repurpose some of your old furniture pieces with new cozy pillows and cushions. If you want to make your outdoor furniture look fantastic, investing in a chair cover that would match the style of your deck or patio would certainly go a long way.

3. Add Plants

Add Plants

Even though you’ve got a good-looking garden out there, flowers and plants are things you can’t have too much of in your home. If you have lattice fences, why not turn them into vertical gardens with bright and colorful flowers.

You can add some potted plants and place them strategically all around the deck as well. Just make sure you don’t put the plants directly onto your wooden floor because that could cause wood rot.

4. Sound System

When most people think about how they can make their deck better, at first, they typically only consider the visual aspects.

However, you shouldn’t forget about sound. If you’re someone who uses your deck to entertain a lot, or if you like listening to some of your favorite slow jams while relaxing outside, then you might want to strongly consider adding a good sound system to make the whole deck experience better.

Bluetooth-controlled wireless speakers are also fantastic solutions. However, ensure they’re weatherproof and can survive being outdoors.

5. Lighting

Consider hanging some lights from the gazebo to give the space an enchanting aesthetic. This will help encourage you to have more evening or nighttime activities in this space. You can also have different colored lighting to give the deck an edgy, festival feel.

A good-looking and comfortable deck can really help enhance a home. And, it doesn’t necessarily have to take much to upgrade that outdoor space of yours. Some of the ideas highlighted above you can even start today. Hopefully, this article has given you an idea of how you can make your own patio a little better.
