The IG Nobel prize is a satiric award given every year since 1990, and it celebrates the most unusual achievements in the science world. These awards are awarded by Nobel laureates, and the events are hosted at Harvard University.
These awards are meant to recognize and honor tech experts, and over three hundred prizes have been dished out since its existence.
There comes a time when all mad scientists realize they have spent lots of finances handling certain projects, and these prizes are accorded to recognize their effort. This event’s recording is broadcasted annually after Thanksgiving, and over three books have been published.
This celebration of science and life has retained its grand status over the years and has been held virtually for the last two years due to the pandemic.
Most Renowned IG Nobel Wins
A significant part of scientific studies is put under the public radar. However, a few definitive studies have had results that have found their way to the books. Below we discuss the most common IG Nobel wins.
1. Driver’s Car Television
Jay Schiffman, a renowned inventor, was given the IG Nobel award in 1994 for creating a device that lets drivers watch a TV when driving. This invention is known as AutoVision, and it uses a tiny projector to resemble a television space above the driver’s sight.
This AutoVision provides the driver with the required field of view, doing away with their urgency to look down. The projects from Auto visions are used in small projects. This project is addressed as the head-up display. This vision gives the actual information which the drivers require. So there is no need to look down.
2. Alarm Clock
An alarm clock is ideal for you if you struggle with waking up in the morning. This clock has wheels in its design, and it leaves the dresser and heads to your bed in a bid to wake you up. It was invented by Nanda Gauri, a then student at MIT, and the award was presented in IG Nobel of 2005.
This item is still common to date and is one of the best inventions in science. Clocky is an alarm clock on the wheel motors. These alarm clocks are a great savior for the problems alarm clocks on the wheels. This motor is putting yourself away from the dresser, then going onto the floor and hiding. These motors are forcing you to get out of bed. Gauri Nada, an MIT graduate won the prize in Economics in 2005.
3. Periodic Table Seat
An IG Nobel prize was awarded to Gray Theodore, a scientist for inventing a unique periodic table. This table is an 8-inch acquired from wood that holds the corresponding element’s actual sample.
This 500-pound table was designed since Gray’s team needed a new conference table, and most were overpriced at the stores. This table has constantly undergone various changes, even though Gray used it only for one sitting.
4. Floating Animals
An IG Nobel prize was awarded to Andre Geim in 2001 after he overcame gravity by suspending a rat in midair. This occurred with the help of a magnet, proving rats are not magnetic but can achieve magnetic components when put in electromagnetic fields.
In 2000, another Ig Nobel physics department Sir Michael Berry of the U.K. and Andre Geim. Their paper’s subjects are using a magnet to overcome gravity and suspend the Frog in midair. Hence Andre is using the stronger field, which exceeds the usage of the MRI.
5. Wheel Reinvention
In 2021 IG Nobel, Australian Patent Office issued a Nobel prize in the technology of the wheel. The patent lawyer John Keogh specified the innovation as the circular transportation facilitation devices.
This popular award was gifted to a patent office in Australia after a patient created a transportation facilitation device. The inventor was trying to prove the methods used to gift innovation patients were rigged.
6. Sword Swelling
Dan Meyer won an Ig Nobel prize in the Medicine department in 2007. This paper’s subject was sword swallowing and the side effect of sword swelling. The first time paper was published in the British Medical Journal in the year of 2006.
Therefore he also demonstrated the acts with a swelling 15-inch sword. He has to suppress the gag of reflex, and the sword smoothly enters the voice box of his esophagus. Then flip into the epiglottis. The normal push with the food going down the esophagus is to nudge the heart. He proves that he can even swallow a longer sword.
