What Agencies Prefer in Technical Recruitment

technical recruitment

Technical or IT recruiting consists of looking for the ideal candidates, interviewing them, letting them take tests, and assessing them. Companies do this because they want to see if the candidates are the right people to fill a specific job position.

Most often, the companies’ human resource personnel do all the processes mentioned. But some companies want to make the process easy. They frequently hire a third-party UK technical recruitment agency that makes all the interviews and administers all the tests relevant to the job position.

If you are one of the aspiring applicants who want to land your dream job, there’s a big chance that you already talk to some of the recruitment consultants. Some companies won’t even consider your application if their chosen agency did not screen you.

You may think that the next step that you need to do is to make a good impression on the interviewer of the agency. The typical human resource personnel will look for the skills and experience. But there are more to these question and answer sessions. Here are other things that many consultants look for when hiring the right candidate.

What Agencies are Looking for

1. The Ability to Commit

Most often, a lot of companies invest their money, time, and effort to train a candidate. However, that very same person that they have trained might resign just after a month. It can be because they might have gotten a great offer from other corporations. Or they might have found that they can’t do the job correctly.

This can be a frustrating experience for the company and the agency that referred them. There are scenarios where, at the start of the screening process, everything might have gone well. The agency trained the candidate on the answers that he should say in front of an IT manager.

However, some people don’t show up in the interview. As a result, after a lot of setbacks and unexpected no shows, recruitment agencies now know better. Read more about recruitment here. Some of them became suspicious of every candidate. They learned to determine if someone is a flake because they don’t want to take risks.

What the agency will do may include the following:

  • Follow-ups and regular communication
  • Being a professional both in written and oral communication
  • Signs of being flaky such as not replying to texts
  • Have Knowledge and interest in the role
  • Making a lot of effort when it comes to presenting CV and resumes

You should prove to the consultants that you are serious about the job. If they have chosen another candidate, there’s a bigger chance that they will keep your name on their list if you are not flaky. But if they have put a big black cross on your name because of your lack of commitment, you may find it harder next time to apply on a tech position.

2. A Good Degree of Confidence

Good Degree of Confidence

Being shy and timid will not give you the role that you are after. On the other side of the spectrum, being loud and showing overconfidence can make you appear intimidating. One of the keys to selling your talents, personality, and skills is to show the right level of confidence during the interview.

You don’t want to project that you are struggling in speaking and answering the questions of the consultant. They will become a little worried, and they might not trust you to speak directly to the company’s manager if you were referred.

What most employers want to see is that you are a friendly candidate with the right level of confidence. You can read more about confidence here

This means that you can answer the questions directly but without coming across as boastful. You can handle pressure with a cool head, and a lot more. The key is to practice your answers. The more you practice, the easier it will be when it’s time for your interview.

A Final Word

People who have excellent programming skills may think that many companies will offer jobs for them. However, if they don’t have the right level of confidence or the ability to commit, other candidates may be chosen instead of them. For faster acceptance into a job that you like, you have to learn different skills such as communication and having a great personality. This way, you can sell yourself effectively, and companies will be happy to hire you.
