It is the time for the “biggest cultural night” in the United States as the BET awards are here. The BET Awards, also known as the Black Entertainment Television Awards, is an annual awards ceremony that celebrates achievements in music, entertainment, and sports by African Americans and other minorities in the United States.
On 25 June, Sunday, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, the annual award show, which advertises itself as the “ultimate platform to showcase the best, brightest, and most beautiful aspects of the Black experience,” will be broadcasted live from Los Angeles.
Connie Orlando, who is the BET EVP, music programing and music strategy, stated in an interview with Billboard:
“We have an incredible lineup of performers who will take us on a musical journey, covering Hip Hop spanning every decade, style, and region. From music to dance and fashion, we are digging through every crate as we celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop and its diversity, evolution, and global impact.”
With seven nominations, Drake leads this year’s nominees. GloRilla received six nominations, closely behind the Toronto rapper, while 21 Savage and Lizzo received five each.
The event is organized by the Black Entertainment Television network and was first held in 2001.The BET Awards honor various categories, including music genres such as R&B, hip-hop, gospel, and international music. The ceremony recognizes accomplishments in fields such as acting, sports, and philanthropy as well.
The BET Awards will be broadcast simultaneously on BET Her, Logo, MTV, MTV2, TV Land, and VH1 on Sunday, June 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
