The only person that can make this decision is you and you should make the decision for you, and no one else. Think about how addiction has hurt you and has hurt your loved ones. CHOOSE POSITIVE THINGS TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME:
Choose positive things to do in your spare time. Sitting around doing nothing and being bored will have you back on the wrong track fast! Learn a new skill; pick a new hobby, hanging out with positive people. This will help you with starting a new chapter in life. You’ll start to feel more confident about yourself and pretty soon, your addiction will be a thing of the past.
KNOW WHAT YOUR TRIGGERS ARE:
When you know what your triggers are, you’re more apt to stay away from whatever is causing them. Certain social scenes can often cause these triggers. Certain friends, certain places and habits can all cause you to start thinking about your old lifestyle and pretty soon you will want to indulge. If you had a friend who encouraged your bad behavior, steer clear of that so-called friend because if they are still having issues with addiction, they are more likely to try to encourage you to get back into your old habits instead of encouraging you to stay clean.
GET PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT:
When you seek professional support and you start some type of therapy or even a support group, they will help you through your tough times, especially if you connect with a sponsor that you can contact any time of the day or night. They’ve been where you have been and can get you through a difficult moment. You just have to be willing to accept the help and know that you need it even when you don’t feel like it.
DONT LET A RELAPSE DETER YOU FROM YOUR GOAL:
Don’t ever let a relapse deter you from your goal. Stay focused and if you should happen to relapse. Don’t be hard on yourself. Get up, dust yourself off and get back on your horse and keep riding until you reach the finish line and seek out rapid detox treatment.
STAY AWAY FROM TEMPTATIONS:
Steer clear of anything that may tempt you into your old habits. It doesn’t matter what it is. If it’s not right for you or if it jeopardizes your recovery of being free from addiction, remove it from your life. There is nothing more important than your life and your health.
Start loving yourself! This is probably one of; if not the most important step in moving forward to break an addiction. People who are addicted do not love or value themselves. If they did, they would not harm their body in this manner. Do what you must in order to love yourself and get healthy again. If you don’t love yourself, you’ll never be able to love anyone else.
