Health Benefits of Cannabidiol

Cannabidiol is a by-product of marijuana, so naturally, it gets some bad press from the uninformed. What they do not realize is that CBD oil is a significant player in the global health market. Did you know that CBD oil had a global health market size of $8.2 billion in 2019?

Contrary to popular belief, CBD oil does not contain the same high or adverse effects you would get from using marijuana. If anything, a World Health Organization (WHO) report states that you will not encounter health problems from using pure CBD.

Instead, it has medicinal value, with the world slowly coming around to this idea. If you want to learn more about the medicinal value of Cannabidiol, here are the top four health benefits of CBD oil.

1. Pain relief:

Man has used marijuana for pain relief since at least 2900 BC. What the early man did not know is one of the active ingredients providing pain relief was CBD.

Although the market is awash with pain relief medication, if you are looking for something natural that will cause fewer side effects, CBD is the way to go.

Your body has the endocannabinoid system (ECS) to help control bodily functions such as appetite, sleep, and immune system response. It produces neurotransmitters called endocannabinoids that bind to receptors in your nervous system. These receptors are responsible for creating the pain sensation, among others.

CBD will reduce inflammation, endocannabinoid receptor activity, and interact with neurotransmitters, thereby reducing chronic pain. It offers some relief in instances such as post-chemotherapy sessions.

Canada and the UK have approved a combination of CBD and TCH to help manage multiple sclerosis (MS) pain.

2. Anxiety and depression relief:

2. Anxiety and depression relief:

There are solid pre-trial suggestions that CBD could prove effective in managing depression and anxiety disorders.

The CBD will bind to brain receptor cells in low doses, enhancing their abilities and activity around the receptor sites.

Too much of it can cause hyperactivity in the receptor sites, negating its benefits. As a 2019 Brazilian study found, the optimum dosage for reducing anxiety was 300mg, while 150mg and 600mg had little effect on anxiety.

The study shows CBD offers excellent promise in arresting the development of depression and anxiety disorders.

An added benefit of using CBD is the lack of side effects or threat of addiction. It is a natural substance, so there is little danger of addiction or substance abuse.

3. Epilepsy:

The Food and Drug Administration approved Epidiolex in 2018, an oral solution containing a purified form of CBD for managing rare conditions of seizures.

Studies showed it effectively treated Lennox-Gastaut and Dravet syndrome in children below 2 years of age. It was particularly effective than other synthetic drugs in reducing the frequency of seizures produced by those two syndromes.

What’s more, it does not produce the same sedating side effects that synthetic drugs have, nor are those drugs capable of targeting the endocannabinoid system the way CBD does.

4. Quit addiction:

4. Quit addiction:

As it is a natural product, CBD can help you overcome an addiction. Scientists from the University of Montreal analyzed five human studies on the effect of CBD on addiction and found that it produces different effects depending on the addiction.

For instance, CBD helps minimize the urge to look for psychostimulant drugs such as cocaine and methamphetamine. However, without the help of THC, CBD is ineffective in reducing withdrawal symptoms for opioid addiction.

There have been suggestions that CBD may help manage nicotine and cannabis addiction, but there are no concrete trials to back up those claims.

Other promising health benefits:

A 2019 CBD review showed it held rich promise in negating the effects and progress of Alzheimer’s disease, with research in progress to map out the required dosage.

On the other hand, CBD has anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce sebum production, thereby managing acne.

Scientists speculate that since it affects the endocannabinoid sectors in the brain like no other synthetic drug can, CBD can help manage mental disorders as it may contain antipsychotic properties.

To sum up, CBD oil is starting to find a foothold in the global health market since it has proven medical benefits while promising other health breakthroughs.
