As popular as vaping has become, there’s an ongoing conversation about whether it’s safe. Everyone knows cigarettes and cigars are harmful, but there isn’t enough research yet to give vaping the green light.
Vaping is safer than traditional smoking methods, though. Some e-liquids don’t have any nicotine in them at all, and others only have a small dose to help traditional smokers quit.
But, when people start doing things like dripping vape or putting hemp waxes in their vaporizers, the safety lines start to blur. If you’re interested in vape dripping, keep reading to learn everything you need.
How Dripping Vape Works:
Dripping vape is the practice of putting vape juice directly on the coil of a vape.
The normal way to vape is by filling the liquid container with your e-liquid of choice. This heats the liquid up in a controlled environment and releases the vapor as you pull (inhale).
When a person drips, though, there are certain variables that are hard to control. The coil of a vape is hotter than one may think. If liquid touches this part directly, it can heat up too fast and create a burning sensation.
Why People Are Dripping:
The irony about this whole matter is most people drip in order to get the burning sensation mentioned above. They want a stronger “hit” in the back of their throat. They may also think dripping vape or thicker and more potent.
Oh, and then there are the missions make the version that dripping vape conserves vape oil. It doesn’t, and even if it did, it wouldn’t justify potentially burning yourself.
There’s also a large population of vapers who are dripping just for fun. They’ve heard about it or see their friends doing it and want in on the action. Unfortunately, this means fewer people are taking a second to ask themselves whether or not it’s a good idea.
More people are following the crowd instead of paying attention. Those that do consider the risks and benefits of dripping vape, though, may stumble upon the safe way to do it. There is a correct way to drip if you have the proper materials to do so; otherwise, you’re doing more harm than good.
Safety Risks Associated with Dripping:
A lot of misinformation is being spread about the dripping by motivated groups in some sections of the media. In this section, we asked a leading name in this ecosystem, Vapor North, to share with us how safe dripping really is. If you are someone that is fond of dripping make sure to pay attention to what the experts at Vapor North are saying.
Understanding the nature of dripping is one thing. Learning about the potential risks it creates is another. Before you start playing with your e-liquid and coils, consider the following.
The Dangers of Careless Dripping:
There are a right way and a wrong way to drip. Most people are dripping carelessly and thus leaving themselves vulnerable to the dangers of dripping.
They may end up burning their lips or the inside of their mouths. It could be a subtle burn or something more severe–however, there’s no telling until it happens, as there’s no way to control the coil’s heat.
People who drip vape are also vulnerable to ingesting unknown toxins from the metal pieces they are using. The standard way of vaping is the safest, and remember, even this is still a controversial topic. When you start using a vape differently, you’re venturing into unknown territory.
A vapor won’t feel the effects of this right away. The consequences do add up over time, though. Too much exposure to the wrong thing can lead to anything from illness and respiratory problems to cancer or issues with brain functions.
None of this is worth dripping for. If you’re too curious to help yourself, though, you have to learn how to drip vape the right way.
How the Right Tools Improve the Dripping Experience:
There is a way to drip safely if you’re so inclined to try this vaping experience.
But, you’re going to have to find the right tools to drip with and cough up the cash for them. If you’re only interested in dripping in order to “save e-liquid”, paying for the equipment sets you back more than it benefits you.
The most important tool you’ll need is a drip tip mouthpiece, known in the industry as a drip atomizer. This attaches to the top of a vaporizer’s regular mouthpiece. It’s where you will drip the liquid onto and pull from.
The mouthpiece is kind of like a mini vape. It has a specific place where the e-liquid goes and where to pull from. As you pull, the liquid heats up in a safe, controlled manner; however, it’s doing so a few drops at a time instead of within a liquid cartridge like traditional vaping.
Once you have your new mouthpiece, don’t just have it. There are certain rules associated with dripping, like not overflowing the liquid container or pulling too hard.
If you overflow the atomizer, you risk getting “spit back.” This is kind of like when a tea kettle gets too hot, but unlike the kettle’s steam, the atomizer will start to release bursts of liquid. The liquid is hot, and it can burn you if you’re not careful.
Still, at the end of the day, it’s better to risk dripping vape with the right tools than to try dripping the DIY way. While both methods have some risks associated with them, buying an atomizer is a much safer way to go.
