There are a lot of reasons for car owners to opt for their car windows to be tinted – from the health benefits of avoiding prolonged and excessive exposure to UV rays that can cause skin problems (the most common being skin cancer), comfort for all passengers, lessening the glare of the sunlight for optimum driving conditions visually, lengthening the lifespan of the car’s upholstery and interior components, to even helping relieve some pressure from the car’s engine (most commonly on the air conditioning system as there is less effort from it to cool the car).
But because car tint films are delicate, extra care should be exercised when cleaning your tinted car windows. However, many owners do not follow this rule and still clean their windows the same way they would clean non-tinted windows, which is a huge mistake that not only can damage the tints, but can also weaken it in the long run, making it lose its effectivity earlier than it’s supposed to.
The main difference between cleaning a newly-tinted car window and cleaning untinted windows lies in the following factors:
- The things you should use when cleaning it, such as cloth wipe material and ingredients of the cleaning agent that you will be using
- The things that you SHOULD avoid to preserve the lifespan, appearance, and effectivity of your car window tints.
Knowing what products are bad for your tinting is the most important rule as it will help prevent you from accidentally damaging the tinting or reducing its lifespan. Taking measures to preserve your car tint’s condition for as long as possible will not only save you the hassle of having it replaced more often than you would want to, but the costs of having to re-tint your windows when you could’ve spent that extra money for other things.
As a general rule, you should never use window cleaners that contain ammonia, which can damage the window tint, and stay away from wiping the windows with cloth made from rough materials as it can scratch the tint film and make the window tint weaker.
