Whether you’re into jump scares or slow-burn psychological freakouts, there’s something here for everyone.
So read on as we break down just what looks so damn compelling about these upcoming movies (including the talents who brought them into existence).
1. The Conjuring: Resurrection
Starring: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson

The Conjuring universe is set to grow yet again!
The Conjuring: Resurrection will deliver even more paranormal scares. (Yes, you can keep the jump scares on the bottom shelf this time since the whole point is to make you feel deeply unsettled, and not just for a few seconds).
This movie will again bring about our favorite paranormal couple Ed and Lorraine Warren’s most horrific investigations. The latest movie in the series will no doubt boast plenty of haunting moments that will have you peering at your screen from behind a cushion.
But can they beat the horror heights of this original? We’ll see!
2. The Hollow World
Starring: Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman
Directed by Jennifer Kent, known for The Babadook, this new psychological horror takes inspiration from folklore.
If you are a fan of psychological thrillers, this kind of horror movie, 2024, should be at the top of your mind. Especially to prepare for this one as it is set to be a deep, unsettling watch.
The story follows a mother and her child as they negotiate a world gradually becoming haunted by nightmares. If you’re into spooky, atmospheric horror this Halloween season, then this film’s most definitely be worth your time!
We all know Kent has a knack for tension and exceptional performances, too, so expect to be properly chilled.
3. Afraid
Starring: John Cho and Katherine Waterston
With AI conquering everywhere, why not get a little in the horror movie world?
Afraid follows an AI genius who artificially clones himself to achieve a breakthrough process and get secrets he suspects are being kept from him. Think of the “Trueman Show” but with AI.
One hottest 2024 horror movie trends is tech horror, and Deep AI is leading the way. The film examines what happens when we create an artificially intelligent being that can think, feel… and kill.
It’s a ride filled with atmospheric tension as the AI reveals it has horrific plans for world domination. If Black Mirror episodes frighten you, be prepared to view technology differently after seeing Afraid.
4. Scream 6
Starring: Courteney Cox, Melissa Barrera

Classic locations are again in danger, as are original cast members alongside new victims. The cat-and-mouse game reaches new heights of terror. If you thought, you knew who was behind the mask… think again!

The Last Seance is a story about a medium who is hired for one final session. But they summon something far darker than expected.
Florence Pugh delivers another powerful performance, and I am not surprised by Willem Dafoe, who I expect will have an unsettling presence.
6. A Quiet Place Part III
Starring: Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy

John Krasinski’s “A Quiet Place” series has been scaring audiences with its relentless suspense.
You seriously do not know what is going to happen next! To the point that you are even compelled to keep quiet throughout.
But in the third film in this franchise, things are still bigger, worse, and scarier.
Will the Abbott family finally discover how to kill the terrifying alien beings that track them by noise?
Expect heightened suspense and inventive new ways of not making a sound – plus, Blunt and Murphy are back in top form.
7. Nosferatu
Starring: Bill Skarsgård, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Emma Corrin

Horror and folklore come together with Nosferatu!
The perfect post Halloween week, when you are missing the spooky vibes!
I can already tell this will be visually captivating as we embark on this gothic tale of obsession. The story revolves around a haunted woman and a vampire who torments her by being obsessed with her.
We can already sense the atmospheric tension which will bait all the us gothic horror fans to this movie.
However, do not worry, there will be a lingering sense of dread that will continue to grow throughout. If you’re a fan of Eggers’ work already, put this one on your list!

8. Halloween Ends: The Final Cut

Can you believe we’ve hit the last installment of the Halloween saga? Michael Myers takes on Laurie Strode one final time in Halloween Ends: The Final Cut.
The legendary horror empire from so many years ago will be ending with this movie. This is why I am expecting a little nostalgia from the first film to seep in, while also being ultra-gory and suspenseful as always.
Will Laurie finally kill Michael once and for all? Guess we’ll have to wait till next year!
