Washington D.C. is a hustling city with deep heritage intimately tied to the heart of America; but sometimes you’ve got to move. Now there are a lot of places you can go. Many from D.C. go north and south. In the North are New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and right nearby is Baltimore; but these cities have a lot of similarity to D.C.

In the south you’ve got all of Florida at hand, as well as the many locals of Georgia and the Carolinas. As you go west, you’ll eventually encounter St. Louis, Chicago, Denver, and Salt Lake city. Beneath them is Texas’ nigh-foreign landscape of moisture, dryness, patriotism, and diversity.

Once you get to the west coast, you’ve got a line of cities to choose from; Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. All have their positives and negatives; which will fit best for you depends on a number of factors.

Considerations For Choosing A New Place To Live

Firstly, what kind of resources are you working with? Do you have a limit, or are you in a position to increase your regular income? If you’re moving for a new job, this is less of an issue, but you will still want to find a home which will serve your new budget. Places like L.A. can be expensive, but there are ways to sidestep some expenses.

Secondly, do you intend on staying in the place you move for a long time, or a short time? It’s usually better to try a new region out for a year or two to see if you can get a feel for it.

There’s no way to know within a few days, or even a few months. You need to get a few traffic tickets, deal with a few utility companies, and see what a new routine looks like to determine if you’re in the right spot.

Some Living Suggestions

If you want some east coast bustle without the congestion, you might consider the vibrant energy of DTLA. Granted, there can be some horrible traffic, but it’s not like D.C. DTLA is in development. It’s being cleaned up and refurbished. There are many renovations coming through, and the arts district to the southeast of downtown is downright interesting.

If you’re more interested in finding a bit of pristine coast for your living, you might consider some of these upscale residences for rent in San Pedro, CA; while not all are right on the coast, this community is in an ideal location of the greater Los Angeles area, and is right near some substantially desirable homes.

If you find yourself in Chicago, you can still experience the kind of home-maintenance solutions you would in D.C. If you’ve got an apartment here and aren’t around as often as you like, you might use a service like Spotless Cleaning Chicago to keep your premises clean while you’re away.

Making Your Choice From All Available Options

A final consideration involves the mobile component. If you’re paying $1k a month on an apartment, that’s $12k a year. For that price you can get a one-person motorhome out of the Midwest that will serve you at least a year, covering its own cost, and leaving you some left over when you sell it. Now this is an uncomfortable living style, but it’s a viable modern option.

There are a lot of choices you can pursue in the modern environment. There’s definitely something out there that’s right for you. If you’re going to make the right choice, you’re going to want to take your time, weigh your options, and make the choice that best fits your needs.
