Apart from the rewind, a new film, Despicable Me 4, is coming in July 2024! If you say you are not a child and the movies from the Despicable Me franchise do not interest you, you have seen nothing yet!
Even if you are not a child, trust me, the Despicable Me guys are medicine for all sadness! I bet you will forget all your heartache or pain if you have a dose of these movies!

Spin-Offs And Legacy: Minions And The Despicable Me Universe!
When Despicable Me was first released in 2010, it became an overnight obsession, with the box office sales hitting $500 million worldwide! Both adults and kids were equally in love with the movie.
The comedic timing and acting finesse by Steve Carell as Gru and the silly little yellow creatures called Minions took the world by storm. Over the years, the franchise has increased in both numbers and popularity.
The franchise has also inspired a theme park at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. It opened in 2012 and is quite popular among both adults and kids! The Minion movies were something more than Despicable Me!
I will be making a chronological list of the films so that you can learn more about the different films revolving around the protagonists such as Gru, his three children and his little minions. I will also share certain facts that will wow or shock you, so keep reading.
Who Are The Minions?
Pill-like creatures who are very curious and completely yellow Minions have risen to fame! Now it’s up to you, whether you hate or love them! At times, the creatures have also baffled viewers, and you will experience various emotions when you see them!
The species of minions comprises tiny yellow henchmen who dress like Mike and Ike candies. The minions are between 2 ft to 3 ft in height and use gibberish language to communicate among themselves and others.
Only a few people understand what language they are using; only some get them! Their purpose in life is to serve and follow an evil boss! Unfortunately, in their need to serve the evil boss, they often end up becoming the reason for the death of their boss.
The little guys are easily distracted, selfish and usually inept, making it difficult to achieve a task successfully. Instead, they screw up every task before they work hard to resolve it! In the end, they are the good guys.
They are quite resilient and have perseverance because they have been transformed into evil purple versions and giants, buried, tortured and crushed, but still they survive. One of the special abilities that minions have is when they are shaken and snapped, they become glow sticks.
Despicable Me: The Franchise!
Despicable Me is an American computer animation franchise created by Sergio Pablos in 2010. Universal Pictures own the franchise, and it currently has 4 movies in the main series and 2 movies in the prequel series. There is also a short movie in this franchise!
So, if you are wondering, how many Despicable Me movies are there! Well, minion lovers will never be satisfied with the existing one!
What can be more? A web series was also released in 2021, Saturday Morning Minions. Further, in 2020, a television special was released, namely Minions Holiday Special. You can also play video games with the theme of Despicable Me!
Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin directed the first films released in 2010 and 2013! The third movie was directed by Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin and was released in 2017. Chris Renaud will return to direct the fourth movie, which will be released in July 2024!
The Casts!
Popular and well-known actors have worked with the films Despicable Me and Minions series. Gru, one of the film’s main protagonists and performs the character of the evil boss, is portrayed by Steve Carell! The comedic feel that the famous actor brings is incomparable!
Further, Russell Brand has given voice to Dr. Nefario, and Jason Segel has given his voice to the character Vector.
The character of Gru’s mom has been brought alive with the voice of Julie Andrews. The three daughters of Gru, Margo, Edith and Agnes, have been perfectly represented by the representatives of Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier and Elsie Fisher.
Apart from the human characters, minions are the characters who are several in number. Still, the main three species are Bob, Stuart and Kevin, who are given voice by the same individual, director and actor Pierre Coffin!

The central plot of the Despicable Me series mostly starts in 1968 when Minions began to look for their evil boss. There are scenes in the movie Minions when certain flashbacks return to billions of years.

This was released later, but the storyline starts from this movie as Stuart, Bob, Kevin, and the rest of the minions are looking for their master to serve. It is at the end of the movie that Gru meets the minions!
2. Minions: The Rise Of Gru (2022)
The movie is chronologically at second number even though it has been released as the most recent movie in this franchise. This movie picks up from the ending of the Minions when Gru meets the Minions! They ultimately become a match made in heaven.
It is as young as 12 years old when Gru is being served by the minions in his super-villainy early years! The movie is almost 40 years before the first released movie, Despicable Me, in 2010.
3. Despicable Me (2010)
Despicable Me is the first movie released in this franchise and tells the story of Gru, his adopted daughters and his henchmen, the Minions. It is about the fun that Minions poke at dictatorship in the movie that justifies the prequel films!
4. Despicable Me 2 (2013)
Here, the movie is a turning point in the life of Gru as even as a villain, he fights for what is right! He stops a super-villain from world domination while faking death!
5. Despicable Me 3 (2017)
It is the film where Gru’s twin long-lost brother, Balthazar Bratt, is ready to destroy Hollywood while Gru initially teams up with him. Later, he fights against him to teach him the significance of life and family.
